Driving without insurance is like playing hockey without a cup. When you really need it, it is nowhere to be found. Not only is it against the law not to have insurance, but it is also irresponsible, potentially leading to pain and suffering that can last for well beyond the event when it is needed most.
When drivers do not insure themselves they are not only putting themselves at risk to be liable for thousands of dollars, but they are endangering their families and the families of others. When accidents occur and the person at fault has no insurance, the victims are only victimized further. And for those who are hit by someone else without insurance, the whole matter escalates to a higher level because the victim of the accident cannot even utilize his or her own coverage as a means to pay for the damage to the vehicle as well as him or herself.
Breaking this matter down to minor, moderate, and major accidents, one can see how necessary being covered is.
When a person with no insurance hits another driver by his own fault and causes damage to that person’s vehicle, it is more likely than not that a matter of this kind will be handled without involving an insurance company. However, if the recipient of the blow finds that he is suffering from back or neck pain, it is his right to seek compensation. For someone without insurance, a small judgment will be made against him to compensate for this person’s pain and suffering running in the neighborhood of a couple thousand dollars.
A moderate accident can likely lead to chiropractic visits and extensive work on the vehicle if it is not totaled. If there is a concussion, the injuries will include a mild form of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Costs against a person’s personal holdings or income can mount to more than $10,000 quite easily.
More serious accidents have consequences beyond financial hardship. And all for what? To save a few dollars. When exchanged for the well being of an entire life, it’s not worth it.
